Objectives Expressions Offer
-
Students are able to identity
characteristics of expressions of offering something/help after listening and
reading some expressions of offering something/help.

Students are able to describe social
function, structure, and language features expressions of offering
something/help after identifying the characteristics of those expressions

Students are able to make oral and written
conversation using expressions of offering something/help after describing the
social function, structure, and language features of those expressions.

Students are able to choose correct modal
verbs and use them properly to offer something/help and/or make a request.

Students are able to build a conversation
about a story.

Students are able to use singular and
plural nouns correctly in various situations.
Social Function : to facilitate interpersonal communication
between different people.
Offer means to give something physical or abstract to someone, which can be taken as a gift or a trade. Offer can be given in terms of food, money, solutions, friendship or a bargain. It can be taken or refused.
For Example :

Expressions/Gambits
When making offers, we
often use the following expressions.
· May I …?
· Can I ….?
· Shall I …?
· Would you ….?
· How about I ….?

Would
The most common way to make an offer in English is to by using the verb
“would”. Here is the structure :
Would + you + like + noun ?
Examples :

Would you like a drink ?
·
Would you like some help ?
Would + you + like + infinitive verb
(to + verb) ?
Examples :

Would you like to go to the movie theater
tonight?
·
Would you like to watch television with me ?
You can also make an offer using can. This is less formal than using would. The structure looks like this :
Can + I + base verb + object (you) ?
Examples :

I help you?

I get you a drink ?
These requests
are normally for small things.
Exercises
:
1. Please download Comic Strip (In Play Store). Then you have to make a story about the Expression of Offers (accepting or declining). The story consist of two students choose your own friend and situation. Upload and Tag the comic strip to my Instagram @ mz.nengmabhak. The task is collected in one week on August 3rd, 2021. Screen Shoot the Comic Strips and upload to Google Class room (Tugas Pekan 1).
