PASSIVE VOICE

Langkah-langkah membentuk kalimat pasif dari kalimat aktif :
1.      Pilih objek penderita dari kalimat aktif itu.
e.g. John delivers the mail.
Jadi mungkin untuk transitive verbs (verbs yang diikuti oleh objects) untuk diubah menjadi kalimat pasif. Dan tidak mungkin  untuk menggunakan intransitive verbs seperti : happen, sleep, come, dan seem.
2.      Buatlah objek tersebut menjadi subjek dari kalimat Pasifnya (passive voice).
3.      Perhatikan Tense dari kalimat aktifnya dan kata yang menjadi subjek dalam kalimat Pasif  itu tunggal (singular) atau jamak (plural). Tense harus sama.
4.      Bentuklah predikat (kata kerjanya) dengan : to be + verb III

e.g. a. John delivers the mail
           The mail is delivered by John
       b. John delivered the mail
            The mail was delivered by John

Positive, Negative dan Interrogative of the Passive Voice

            Kita membentuk Kalimat negative dari the passive voice dengan cara menempatkan not sesudah the auxiliary verb (am, is, are, was, were, will, would, ought to, can, ought to can, could, may, might, must, have to, have etc).
Example :
(+) This book was written by R.A. Kartini
(-) This book was not written by R.A. Kartini

Kita membentuk questions dari the passive voice dengan cara menempatkan the auxiliary verb sebelum subjeknya.
(+) This book was written by R.A. Kartini
(-) Was this book written by R.A Kartrini ?
            Make Passive
1.      My mother helps Christine and Iwan.
2.      Harry is opening the window.
3.      Mr. Karman has closed the door.
4.      Ali bit Iwan.
5.      The dog was biting the child.

Make Active Voice
1.      The house was destroyed by fire.
2.      English is spoken all over the world.
3.      My class is taught by Mr. William.
4.      The lesson has been copied by the students.
5.      A new house is being built by them.

He is going to write a letter

Future Perfect
He will have written a letter
A letter will have been written by him
Modals
He can write a letter
A letter can be written by him
(Can-Could, May-Might, Shall-should,  Will – Would, Ought to – ought to.

Mixed Exercise on Passive Voice
Rewrite the sentences in passive voice.
  1. John collects money. -
  2. Anna opened the window. -
  3. We have done our homework. -
  4. I will ask a question. -
  5. He can cut out the picture. -
  6. The sheep ate a lot. -
  7. We do not clean our rooms. -
  8. William will not repair the car. -
  9. Did Sue draw this circle? -
  10. Could you feed the dog? -
